Spiral Staircase for "The Hopservatory" at Worthy Brewing in Bend, Oregon
Albina Co., Inc. recently completed 14,000 lbs. of bent steel to create a beautiful spiral staircase at Worthy Brewing in Bend, OR. Bent steel materials for the project included: MC18 X 42.7# A36 spiral bent lengths with flanges in and lengths with flanges out were bent down to a 9 ft plan view radius! Landing pieces were also spiral bent down to a 9’ 8” radius. C15 X 33.9# A36 for the inside landings were spiral bent down to a 8’ 9” outside radius (plan view). Bend, Oregon is located on the eastern edge of the Cascade Mountain Range along the Deschutes River and is a popular tourist town known best for the many outdoor activities offered and world famous micro-brews. Worthy Brewing Co. broke ground on Feb. 24, 2012 off U.S. Highway 20 on Bend’s east side — it’s Bend’s 1st east side brewery – and with a beer garden, hop garden, and Hopservatory. The spiral staircase winds up to The Dome at the top of the rotating Hopservatory where visitors can view the cosmic skies through an OGS 16” RC Reflector telescope. Updated Pictures of Curved Rectangular Tube Steel "Spheres" Covered in Glass
See below for the most recent pictures of the curved steel "Spheres" in Seattle, WA. 750,000# and 1,050 pieces rectangular tube steel bent the easy way and a portion bent off-axis. Almost 8 miles of welding work and grinding was avoided because of Albina's ability to bend a portion of the project. Almost NO correction was needed during fabrication or erection as the bends fit to the fixtures within 1/32nd of an inch! New Spiral Staircase at Golden West College Huntington Beach, CA.
Albina is happy to be teamed up with a very loyal fabricator on the Golden West College Project located in Huntington Beach, CA. Construction of a new 51,969 square foot building at the center of campus will house all student services. A new spiral staircase with landings was required for the new building and the California fabricator new the best choice for this project was Albina. This project required Tube Steel 16" X 4" X .500" WALL A500 GR B material to be spiral bent for the stringers and also bent flat (the easy way) for the landing supports. The spiral staircase also required some smaller HSS square tubing for stringers and landings out of Tube Steel 6" X 6" X .625" WALL A500 GR B. Everything on this project was bent to AESS standards.
Induction Bending of Rectangular Tube Steel for New Additions at Olympic Towne Center in Gig Harbor, Washington
Albina is working on bending rectangular hallow structural steel for the Olympic Towne Center project in West Gig Harbor, Washington. The Olympic Towne Center development will boast 186,291 square feet of retail space and will anchored by a 65,000 square foot grocery store. This project requires Albina to bend some TS 12" X 3" X .375" WALL A500 GR B rectangular tubing. Part of the project consists of spiral bent stair stringers, induction bent, down to an 6 foot plan view radius! This is a very tight radius for spiral bending HSS members. We are induction bending this material with our in-house designed induction bending method which will result in the highest quality spiral bends seen in the industry. We are also providing bends for the stair case landings. These bends are also down to a 6 foot radius and will all be provided to AESS quality standards.
Steel Bending Contract at Carnegie Mellon University- Distance is Not a Deterrent!
Never hesitate to contact Albina for any of your steel bending needs. We are your “local” steel bending company no matter where you are located! Albina was recently awarded a steel bending contract for Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. That is 2,566 miles across the United States! Our customer wanted the steel to be bent correctly, the first time, to high AESS quality standards, so they chose to contract with Albina. For this project, Albina will be performing some very difficult spiral bending of TS 20" X 8" X .500" WALL A500 GR B material. There are a total of 12 spiral bent sections and 6 sections that are bent flat (the easy-way). Our customer couldn’t afford to make the mistake of using another bending company. They wanted to come to Albina because we have the most experience in the nation with large HSS spiral bending to the highest quality standards.
Spiral Coils for Industrial Heat Exchanger
Albina spiral coiled ½" OD X .065" WALL stainless steel tube heat exchanger for an industrial application. We were supplied with only the existing coil to reproduce from. The coils were bent in one continuous piece that spirals down on the inside and then steps out and spirals back over itself. The sheet between was not needed to complete the bends but was left in place to match the existing design. Spiral Steel Staircase at Brickell Academy in Virginia Beach, VA.
Albina recently completed the spiral bending of 24 pieces of Tube Steel 14" X 4" X .500" WALL A500 GR B the easy way and 10 pieces of Tube Steel 12" X 3" X .375" WALL A500 GR B the easy way for a gorgeous spiral steel staircase at Brickell Academy in Virginia Beach, VA. All of the material for the curved staircase and landing was architecturally exposed structural steel. Curved Steel Roof Structure at the Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at UC Davis
The Jan Shrem and Maria Maneeti Museum of Art at UC Davis opened in late November of 2016. Albina Co., Inc. was fortunate enough to be the designated AISC Bender/Roller on this project. Albina bent 38 lengths of tube steel 14" X 10" X .500" WALL A500 GR B and 3 lengths of tube steel 14" X 10" X .375" WALL A500 GR B for the complex project. All of the material bent the Easy Way, Hard Way and also compound bent the easy way AND hard way in the same length. The Fabricator on the project was Olsen & Co. Steel. SO-IL and Bohlin Cywinski Jackson designed a 50,000 square-foot permeable roof that covers both the site and the building. The canopy is composed of 910 triangular, honed aluminum infill beams. assembled in an intricate pattern, the structure seeks to evoke the patchwork texture and topology of the surrounding landscape. The canopy arcs as high as 34 feet on the freeway side, and dips as low as 12 feet at its front. The Museum is currently nominated for an AISC 2017 IDEAS2 Award. 2017 NOMMA Membership Directory & Buyers Guide
The Buyers Guide is published annually by the National Ornamental & Miscellaneous Metals Association (NOMMA). They Buyers Guide is now available in print and online on the NOMMA website. Albina's ad can be see opposite the inside back cover. In the ad, we feature one of the most difficult spiral stringer projects we have ever undertaken in the last 78 years. We recently spiral bent 20" X 18" rectangular tube steel down to a 7'7" plan view radius and 20" x 12" rectangular tube steel down to a 13'9" plan view radius for the Lakeside Campus in Richardson, Texas. Our induction heat source and increment bending method produces extremely tight spiral bends which all met AESS standards. Check out the most recent NOMMA Buyers Guide or see the pictures below to see the bends for yourself.
