Steel Day is scheduled to take place on September 19, 2014. Steel Day is an annual event sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and hosted at various member and partner locations throughout the country. Steel Day is an opportunity for professionals from various industries to learn about the benefits of using structural steel in everyday applications. Steel day is an excellent educational opportunity as well as a networking opportunity to meet people and tour facilities that play a key role in the steel industry. Curved Steel Earns Happy Hallow Pedestrian Bridge Project Award of Merit
Engineering News Record: California awarded the Happy Hallow Pedestrian Bridge in San Jose, CA. an Award of Merit in the small projects category. Completed in March 2012, the bridge is the first of its kind in Northern California and consists of twin 270-ft identical spans. These were constructed using only two rolled sections for the arch ribs and for the tie girders and cross bracing. Albina Co., Inc. rolled 140,000# of W14 x 109# A709 50W the Easy Way to a 225 ft. radius and 90,000# of WT9 x 38# A709 50W split from W18 x 76# and then bent to various radii. Pacific Energy Concepts and the Energy Trust of Oregon Encourage Exterior Lighting Upgrades
Albina is in the process of replacing all of our exterior lights.  The upgrade is compliments of Pacific Energy Concepts and the Energy Trust of Oregon. We are excited about this project for a number of reasons. We will recognize monthly power savings which will result in lower power bills. Our exterior lighting will be brighter, covering a greater area. Maintenance of the lights will be less expensive when compared to our current fixtures. Most importantly, Albina’s lighting project will help decrease air pollution and environmental damage by the following amounts EACH YEAR: a) 14.2 tons of CO2 removed per year b) 3.9 acres of trees to be planted / saved per year c) 1,760.9 gallons of gas saved per year
