Broadway Bridge Replacement Project- Albina Co., Inc. to the Rescue!
The newly renovated Broadway Bridge opened a few weeks ago in Boise, Idaho. The General Contractor determined, at the end of the project, that the detailer had left off a couple of pieces. We rolled and galvanized the steel and sent the finished product over night to meet the bridge opening requirements. You can read more about the details of the bridge renovation here.
Steel Supported Bridge at Universal Studios Hollywood
Albina recently completed 65,000# of bent steel  for a curved span bridge that connects Los Angeles' Metro Universal City City Red Line Station to Universal Studio Hollywood's Wizarding World of Harry Potter Attraction. Albina bent the following structural steel materials for the 400 foot, L-shaped bridge span bridge. 14” OD x .375” Wall bent down to a 60 ft radius 16” Od x .500” wall bent down to a 59 ft radius 17” Sch80 A106B smls bent down to a 59 ft radius 8.625” OD x .500” wall API-5L bent down to a 44 ft radius 8.625” OD x .625” wall API-5L bent down to a 202 ft radius The steel was fabricated by Thomson Metal Fab. Curved Aluminum Span Bridge at Riverview Park
Albina Co., Inc. recently bent 40 foot lengths of tube steel 8" x 8" x .500" wall for the Riverview Park Aluminum Span Bridge located in Washington state. The steel bending for the span bridge consisted of rolling the material to a 209 foot radius. All of the tube steel was rolled to AESS (Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel) specifications. After the steel bending was complete, Albina's customer fabricated the bridge into 2 sections at 140 feet per section. Albina produces architecturally designed pedestrian bridges and walk-ways erected at transportation stations, universities, museums, large businesses, state park, etc. [caption id="attachment_839" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Curved Steel Span Bridge Curved Steel Span Bridge[/caption] [caption id="attachment_840" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Curved Steel Span Bridge Bent Tube Steel 8" x 8" x .500" wall Aluminum[/caption] [caption id="attachment_841" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Curved Steel Span Bridge Curved Steel Aluminum Span Bridge[/caption]

Curved Steel Pedestrian Bridges
Architecturally designed pedestrian bridges and walk-ways are often erected at transportation stations, universities, museums, business centers, and state parks. Most often, these curved steel bridges are constructed of bent or rolled structural steel including, pipe, square or rectangular tube steel, channel and wide flange. It depends on the application, the load requirements the AESS (Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel) requirements, and fabrication specifications of the project to determine which type of structural steel will best fit the needs of the project. Curved Steel Earns Happy Hallow Pedestrian Bridge Project Award of Merit
Engineering News Record: California awarded the Happy Hallow Pedestrian Bridge in San Jose, CA. an Award of Merit in the small projects category. Completed in March 2012, the bridge is the first of its kind in Northern California and consists of twin 270-ft identical spans. These were constructed using only two rolled sections for the arch ribs and for the tie girders and cross bracing. Albina Co., Inc. rolled 140,000# of W14 x 109# A709 50W the Easy Way to a 225 ft. radius and 90,000# of WT9 x 38# A709 50W split from W18 x 76# and then bent to various radii. A single cable size (3/4 in. dia) was used for both spans. curved steel pedestrian bridge happy hallow zoo
The National Steel Bridge Alliance (NSBA) Promotes Steel as the Preferred Material for Bridges
The National Steel Bridge Alliance (NSBA) is a division of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). The NSBA's mission is to promote steel as the preferred material for bridge design and construction and to increase steel's share of the bridge market. Albina Co., Inc. is one of the leading structural steel fabricators for steel bridges that contain bent or curved structural members for architectural, structural or ornamental applications. The NSBA brings together the structural steel fabricators and producers with agencies and groups who have a stake in the success of steel bridge construction, including representatives from AASHTO, FHWA, state DOTs, bridge consultants, erectors, and representatives of the coatings, fastener, and welding industries. The NSBA assist with bridge design specifications and provides technical assistance and reviews throughout the drawing/specification process. The World Bridge Symposium is taking place March 26-28th in conjunction with the North American Steel Construction Show, The Annual Stability Conference, and the Technology in Steel Construction Conference at the Metro Toronto Convention Center.
2014 North American Steel Construction Conference March 26-28th Toronto, Canada
The 2014 NASCC (North American Steel Construction Conference) will be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Center in Toronto, Canada March 26-28th. The Steel Conference is the place for engineers, fabricators, detailers and erectors to learn about structural steel design and construction, to interact with their peers and to see the latest products for steel buildings and bridges. This year, in addition to the NASCC exhibit hall, three additional conferences will be incorporated into the show: The Annual Stability Conference, The Technology in Steel Construction Conference, and the World Steel Bridge Symposium. There will be various technical seminars, networking opportunities and product showcases tailored towards structural engineers, detailers, erectors and fabricators alike. Albina Co., Inc. will have an ad featuring bent steel projects in the show's premier industry publication "Modern Steel."Modern Steel NASCC Show
Bent Steel Projects Featured in National Trade Publications
Albina Co., Inc. had the opportunity to feature several of their high-profile bent steel projects in many of the national trade publications during the month of February. NOMMA's (National Ornamental of Misc. Metals Association) Annual Buyers Guide features several spiral, circular and helical staircases using materials such as plate, pipe, tube and structural members. It also highlights some of the decorative gates, fences and signage that we specialize in. One new product that Albina is offering includes complete handrail kits. The handrails are bent and trimmed per the customer's drawing, the mid-rails trimmed and coped, and the assemblies are supplied as individual parts or fabricated complete! NOMMA Buyers Guide 2014 STRUCTURE Magazine's editorial focus for February is cold formed steel and bridges. Albina specializes in architecturally designed pedestrian bridges and walk-ways erected at transportation stations, universities, museums, large businesses, and state parks. Some projects featured include the Museum of Flight Pedestrian Bridge in Seattle, WA. and the Happy Hallow Zoo Pedestrian Bridge is San Diego, CA. STRUCTURE Mag February Ad
