Induction Spiral Bending at Albina
Albina was recently awarded the bending for the Segerstrom Center for the Arts located in Costa Mesa, CA. This project consists of 48,000# of bending out of TS 20" X 12" X .625" WALL A500 GR B (4 lengths x 48 ft and 3 lengths x 60 ft). All of this material is being bent with our in-house designed induction bending method. 30% of the parts will be spiral bent while the other 70% of the parts are being bent the easy-way to various configurations and radii. We are working to a critical ship date and will certainly deliver as promised.
Albina Contributes Bent Steel to Improve Roadways and Road Conditions
Does traffic frustrate you? Are you tired of facing poor road conditions and various road hazards when driving? Albina is teaming up where ever we can with contractors to provide bent steel for new road construction. New roads in high traffic areas will help alleviate traffic congestion and will provide commuters with better roads and driving conditions. One such area in Oregon that has historically had very high congestion is the highway connecting the cities of Newberg and Dundee. Certain times of the day this highway sits at a standstill. Fortunately, there is a new Bypass road being built that will help with the heavy traffic congestion. Albina will be providing the bent steel for the new Newberg Dundee Bypass. Materials include: TS 10" X 4" X .375" WALL A500 GR B TS 12" X 8" X .375" WALL A500 GR B Materials are bent the Hard way to various configurations. All materials are bent to AESS (architecturally exposed structural steel) standards. For more information on the project you can read a recent update posted on Oregon.gov.
Curved Steel at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles
Albina is currently working on 130,000 pounds of curved steel for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures located in LA. Albina is bending Square Tube Steel 6" X 6" X .500" WALL A500 GR B and Rectangular Tube Steel 7" X 4" X .500" WALL A500 GR B (approx. 190 pcs in total to various radii and configurations). The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be the world's premier film museum and a cultural institution for Los Angeles and will provide a destination for tourists to celebrate the magic and imagination of Hollywood and the movies. Check back for pictures as the project progresses.
LAX Midfield Satellite Concourse North Expansion
Do you like innovative and eye catching architecture? You should take a look at the new LAX Midfield Satellite Concourse North Project. This new project is part of an estimated $1.2 billion dollar modernization program at Los Angeles International Airport. The satellite concourse will be a remote facility initially served by an airport busing operation and a passenger access tunnel (PAX) connection to the Bradley West Terminal. The new MSC will permit greater flexibility in scheduling improvements at other facilities, reduce reliance on remote gates, and ensure a high level of service for LAX passengers. Albina is partnering with Schuff Steel and is bending all of the steel for this project. There is over 1 million pounds of bent steel in this project consisting of curved HSS (Hallow Structural Steel) as well as structural steel members.
Rolled HSS and Steel Angle for Fort Bliss Hospital in Texas
Albina has successfully completed bending various HSS and angle for the Fort Bliss Hospital in Texas. We induction bent and roll bent with internal support, materials to meet AESS standards. TS 16" X 4" X .500" WALL A500 GR B was induction bent to a spiral configuration down to a 29 ft plan view radius for the stringers. We also roll bent (with internal support) the same material, the easy way, down to a 29 ft radius for landing materials. Other materials required for this project included TS 10" X 4" X .375" WALL A500 GR B and 3" X 3" X 3/8" ANGLE A36. Just another project that proves distance is NOT a deterrent. Curved Steel Bio-Spheres Take Shape in Seattle, WA.
The erection of the curved steel "Spheres" in Seattle, Washington was completed in April 2016. Over the summer, the team of contractors began the install of the glass enclosure over the steel bio-spheres. Check out the progression in the pictures below. As a reminder, Albina’s scope of work included approximately 750,000# and 1.050 pieces of rectangular tube steel bent the easy way and a portion bent off-axis. The material was bent to tight tolerances and bent to AESS standards. The amount of welds and grinding was significant, but thanks to Albina’s ability to bend portions of the project, a significant amount of welding and grinding was avoided. Almost NO correction was needed during fabrication or erection as the bends fit to fixtures (fabrication) within 1/32nd of an inch! Check back for more pictures as the project progresses!
