Sustainable architecture and ecological design projects were honored at the 2014 AIA National Convention in late June. Albina Co., Inc. was the bender/roller for the exterior curved tube steel on the facade of the Edith Green-Wendell Wyatt Federal Building in Portland, Oregon. Albina rolled 155,000# of Tube Steel 10" X 10" X .375" WALL A500 GR B rolled to a 34’ 0” outside radius and Tube Steel 10" X 10" X .625" WALL A500 GR B. rolled to a 34’ 0” outside radius. To maximize the highest level of quality on these bends and minimize distortion (concavity and crush), Albina used our in-house designed internal support system for rolling. This internal support essentially turned the hollow section into a solid section resulting in the highest level of bend quality. The members we rolled were supports for the fascia of the building.

Albina Co., Inc. recently bent Square Tube Steel 2” x 2” x .250” wall to a 12-7/8” Outside Radius. These bends were used by a manufacturing company as basket frames.

Albina rolled / bent a 60' Length of HSS 16 X 4 X .500 A500 Gr. B tubular steel this morning. It was not the most challenging job on the whole, but we had no margin of error. A mill ordered 60' length of material that was not easily replaceable and would have caused significant schedule delays for our customer if it didn't work out. Rolled / Bent to a 12' Radius the Easy Way with virtually zero distortion. Planning and teamwork at all levels resulted in another example of the best available result.

First article approval nearly complete on a 44' X 13' football shaped bus shelter canopy. The complete assembly includes various materials. The main canopy frame is assembled from Rolled / Bent Steel HSS members to AESS quality, and large diameter support columns with rolled / bent round tubing knee braces.

Albina recently bent Tube Steel 5" X 3" X .375" WALL A500 GR B and Tube Steel 6" X 4" X .375" WALL A500 GR B, all bent the easy way, to create the new lighted marquee at the Moda Center. The Moda Center is the home of the NBA's Portland Trailblazers. The bent tube steel was used to create the following letters: O, A, E (2), C, D. In addition to the marquee outside, we also bent to the tube steel that provides the base to the jumbotron scoreboard that hangs above center court.

Albina Co., Inc. recently bent 64 lengths x 30 ft of Tube Steel 6” x 4” x .250” wall for some curved roof trusses for the Presidio Parkway Doyle Tunnel in San Francisco. Over 30,000# of material was bent the hard way to a 52 foot radius.

Albina Co., Inc. is providing 20,000# of 60 foot lengths of Tube Steel 16" x 12" x .625" bent the hard way to a 127'-5-1/2" Inside Radius.  We are also providing 20,000# of 40 foot lengths of Tube Steel 20" x 12" x .625" bent the hard way to a 121'-5-1/2" Inside Radius. Tower Two at One Rincon Hill will feature new condominium-size residences with stunning San Francisco Bay views, space and several amenities. Tower Two at One Rincon Hill is a LEED Certified Building. We are excited to be part of this project.

Albina is providing 62,000# of  79' lengths of TS 20" x 12" x .500" wall A500 GR the Hard-way to a 101'-8" radius for a spiral staircase at the Student Experience Center at Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR. Albina is also providing 69 pieces of TS 6" x 3" x .313" wall A500 GR measuring 66' long for the project as well. Installation pictures coming soon!

Albina and Cundiff Steel Fabricating & Erecting provided 36,000# of TS 16" x 8" x .375" wall, TS 16" x 8" x .500" wall, TS 10" x 8" x .250" wall, and TS 16" x 16" x .375" wall all AESS for a canopy at St. Jude's Hospital. Cundiff Steel had the following comments about working with Albina: " I want to thank you guys for sticking with us on this project. Albina recently bent some 4" Sch40 and 12" Sch40 pipe for a water slide tower at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Arizona.
