Curved Steel for the Philadelphia Museum of Art Skylights Project
Curved Steel for the Philadelphia Museum of Art Skylights Project

We currently have a job in progress that involves bending tube steel and doing some very complex end coping on the material for some custom skylights at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The coped ends are VERY complex. Every machine shop we contacted to cope these ends and slot these ends all declined. With all of our technical expertise, we figured out how to do the ends in-house. It is the most complex end details we have ever worked with. Albina is bending, trimming, slotting and miter cutting 150 pieces of TS 5" X 3" X .375" WALL A500 GR B and TS 4" X 3" X .375" WALL A500 GR B per drawings down to a 4'8" radius. Our customer will do the remainder of the fabrication. Stay tuned for more pictures as we near completion of the job!

Explore "The Spheres" Online Now!
Building The Spheres was a project that began in February 2013 and just this month The Spheres will officially open. Numerous Pacific Northwest businesses collaborated to make The Spheres possible. The Spheres website is officially live and you can explore not only the building and the many milestones during conception and construction, but also the very unique plant life that inhabits The Spheres. Albina Co., Inc. was the steel bender/roller for the Curved Steel Bio-Sphere buildings in Seattle, WA. Albina bent 750,000# and 1,050 pieces rectangular tube steel bent the easy way and a portion bent off-axis. Almost 8 miles of welding work and grinding was avoided because of Albina’s ability to bend a portion of the project. Almost NO correction was needed during fabrication or erection as the bends fit to the fixtures within 1/32nd of an inch! 60,000# of Bent Steel for The Living Desert Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Palm Desert, CA.
We just finished a project for The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Desert, California which consisted of over 60,000# of bent steel! This project consisted of AESS (Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel) material including both angle to rectangular tubing. The rectangular tubing ranged from 2” x 1” up to 16” x 8"! This is a great example of how well we can handle so many various sizes of material from the small to the big! We do it all! Another highlight of this project is that we were able to take the 10" X 6" X .375" WALL A500 GR B Tube Steel to a 7 ft radius! A very difficult accomplishment.
Steel Bending Complete for the LAX Midfield Satellite Concourse North Expansion
Albina has finished the steel bending for the new LAX Midfield Satellite Concourse North Project. This project was part of an estimated $1.2 billion dollar modernization program at Los Angeles International Airport. Albina partnered with Schuff Steel and we bent over 1.2 million pounds of curved HSS (Hallow Structural Steel) as well as structural steel members for the project. This project consisted of various structural shapes and sizes and resulted in 0% rework. The steel bending was done over 7 months and we were able to meet or exceed all of our customers scheduling requirements. The satellite concourse will be a remote facility initially served by an airport busing operation and a passenger access tunnel (PAX) connection to the Bradley West Terminal. The new MSC will permit greater flexibility in scheduling improvements at other facilities, reduce reliance on remote gates, and ensure a high level of service for LAX passengers.
