Curved Steel at Providence Medical Center in Medford, Oregon
Albina Co., Inc. recently completed bending 21,000 pounds of curved steel for a Providence Medical Center located in Medford, Oregon. We bent Tube steel 8" X 6" X .250" WALL A500 GR B bent the Easy way to a 22 ft radius, tube steel 6" X 4" X .250" WALL A500 GR B Bent the Hard way to a 17 ft radius and Tube steel 6" X 3" X .250" WALL A500 GR B of which 4 lengths were bent the Easy way to a 23 ft radius and 4 lengths were bent the Hard way to a 17 ft radius. Lastly, we bent Tube steel 6" X 6" X .250" WALL A500 GR B Bent to a 44 ft radius. Curved Steel Medford Providence Medical Center
Meet Brian and Jaime Smith-March Madness...Size Doesn't Matter, Big or Small!
We are basketball junkies in our family and we love watching March Madness! We love it because all scenarios are represented: big history-rich dominating schools vs. small underdog first timers, big boisterous coaches vs. the silent tactical types, and big 7-footers vs. small point guards. This last scenario is true in our family as I stand at 6'6" and Jaime almost a foot shorter. You can see below why Jaime, who actually played D1 college basketball, implemented a "no shot blocking rule" when we first started dating!! Meet Brian and Jaime Smith We think that this big vs. small comparison carries over so well into our business because we have the capability to bend steel for many different scenarios as well: big high-profile structural steel projects vs. small precision parts for manufacturing and industrial applications, large projects with mass quantities of bends vs. small one-piece bends for a one-time job and we are also a small, family owned business, yet we are the premier bending expert in the entire nation. No matter the job, big or small, we would love the opportunity to be Your Bending Expert.
Attend the NASCC Show 2017 in San Antonio, Texas to Learn Why You Should Specify Curved Steel on Your Next Project!
This year's NASCC Show: The Steel Show will take place March 22-24 in San Antonio, Texas at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. The Steel Conference is the place for engineers, fabricators, detailers and erectors to learn about structural steel design and construction, to interact with their peers and to see the latest products for steel buildings and bridges. Technical sessions and educational seminars are offered throughout the week in addition to the trade show. Albina Co., Inc. will be exhibiting and we are excited to share information on curved steel and why it is the better choice in architectural design. Just a brief glimpse on why you should specify curved steel on your next project:
  • Reduced Risk
  • Controlled Costs
  • Sensitivity to the Environment
  • An award winning project that stands out from the rest

2016 AISC Code of Standard Practice Now Available for Free Download
It's here! The 2016 AISC Code of Standard Practice for Steel Buildings and Bridges (ANSI/AISC 303-16) is now available as a free PDF download at www.aisc.org/2016code. Section 6.4.2 addresses chord / MO tolerances as it pertains to curved steel members. These tolerances are then applied to a bend radius. Albina's tolerances are equal to, or better than, the tolerances listed in the 2016 Code of Standard Practice for Steel Buildings and Bridges. Use Albina for your next bending project and let us prove it to you!
What Do Our Customers Think About our Steel Bending Quality?
The following comments from our happy customers demonstrate the very reason that people should not make purchasing decisions based solely on price, especially when buying a product that requires precision and quality like curved steel. "We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Albina employees for their professionalism and expedited efforts that it took to perform their part in the bending and fabrication of the required tube assemblies. With the efforts of the Albina team, the fabricator was able to accomplish the expedited schedule that end customer required. We would like to mention that the customer was very happy with the work that Albina performed and commented that they have more projects they plan on sending our way. We look forward to working with you in the future." "The entire staff at Albina has been excellent to work with and up front and honest in the work that that was performed. I thank you and the Albina crew for setting the standard. I look forward to the next project that we get to send your way." Remember that there is a price and a cost associated with every job. The price of a competitor might be below ours, but when you add up all of the actual costs to receive and install the material, is there really a cost savings? If you chose the lowest price, you may deal with late delivery, poor quality or incorrect parts and a lack of or delayed communication. If you choose the lowest price, you will get what you pay for.
Excellence in Curved Steel
Albina has done it again! Another example of the quality in workmanship we provide and another satisfied customer! "Albina is our preferred vendor for all things heavy requiring rolling and or forming. Rest assured, I have nothing but admiration for Albina’s ability and workmanship, QC, QA, and logistics. I have also developed a great relationship and trust your team. I look very forward to working with you again. As far as we are concerned, you have not competition!"
Curved Steel Wide Flange Bent to an Extremely Tight Radius
We have done it again! Albina continues to "Bend the Rules" of the steel bending process to continue to provide bends that are extremely difficult to our customer base. Albina recently rolled wide flange W8x24# the hardway to a 4 foot inside radius to AESS standards! This is an extremely tight radius to bend to and our operators bent it to perfection! Curved Steel Construction in Seattle, WA.
There is an impressive curved steel building currently being erected in Seattle, WA. right now! For The Spheres, Albina’s scope of work included approximately 750,000# and 1.050 pieces of bent steel material consisting of TS 9" X 5" X .500" WALL A500 GR B, TS 10" X 6" X .500" WALL A500 GR B, and TS 12" X 8" X .500" WALL A500 GR B. The curved steel sections were bent the easy way and a portion bent off-axis. All material is AESS with very tight tolerances. The project consists of 8 miles of welds and 8 miles of grinding performed by the lead fabricator! The amount of welds and grinding was significant, but thanks to Albina's ability to bend portions of the project, a significant amount of welding and grinding was avoided. The bends fit to fixtures (fabrication) within 1/32nd of an inch! Almost NO correction was needed during fabrication or erection.
