Albina Co., Inc. has created an entire section on our website dedicated to educating architects and engineers on the benefits of using Curved Steel when specifying and designing buildings.
How to Order Curved Steel
There are certain pieces of information that we require to process your order for curved steel. When you call to place your order for curved steel, we need the following information: a) Material, including alloy or temper b) Outside diameter (OD) and wall thickness (WT) c) Centerline radius (CLR) d) Minimum straight bend between tangent points (ST) e) Maximum bend angle (BA) We can curve steel to your specifications. Please specify tolerances to be held on part shape and send drawings, print samples, fixtures or templates if necessary along with the above information to ensure that your bent steel project goes exactly as you envisioned.
Curved Steel Earns Happy Hallow Pedestrian Bridge Project Award of Merit
Engineering News Record: California awarded the Happy Hallow Pedestrian Bridge in San Jose, CA. an Award of Merit in the small projects category. Completed in March 2012, the bridge is the first of its kind in Northern California and consists of twin 270-ft identical spans. These were constructed using only two rolled sections for the arch ribs and for the tie girders and cross bracing. Albina Co., Inc. rolled 140,000# of W14 x 109# A709 50W the Easy Way to a 225 ft. radius and 90,000# of WT9 x 38# A709 50W split from W18 x 76# and then bent to various radii. A single cable size (3/4 in. dia) was used for both spans. curved steel pedestrian bridge happy hallow zoo

Curved Steel Projects Heat Up!
The reemergence of the sunshine and warm weather in Oregon has seemed to also generate some very large Structural Steel, Plate, Pipe, Square and Rectangular tubing projects.  Many of these projects also include some supplemental fabrication work.  Supplemental fabrication projects typically involve bent materials that are then welded, drilled, trimmed, etc (i.e. value added services).  We provide these services to allow our customers (typically fabricators or manufactures) to cut one PO and not have to worry about processing secondary processes in their busy shops.  Albina has been proactive in our facility planning to allow for this surge of work.  We recently purchased another building that is being erected on our property.  This building will act as storage for work in process materials and projects.  Storing material outside our main facility will free up valuable manufacturing space for some of our massive summer / fall curved steel projects. We are always trying to stay one step ahead of demand to continue to bring our customers the exceptional service they have grown accustomed to.
Curved Steel Canopy at World of Speed Museum
World of Speed, a nonprofit experiential motor sports exposition, purchased an 80,000 square foot building in Wilsonville, Oregon as the permanent home for an auto racing and performance car tourism destination and an auto industry educational program. A local contractor partnered with Albina Co., Inc. to have us bend the curved steel canopy on the top of the building. Materials consisted of 6" SCH80 A53B rolled to a 48’ 4” center-line-radius. The customer will net 78’ 4” of bent material. All roll material is Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel.
