2017 NOMMA Membership Directory & Buyers Guide
The Buyers Guide is published annually by the National Ornamental & Miscellaneous Metals Association (NOMMA). They Buyers Guide is now available in print and online on the NOMMA website. Albina's ad can be see opposite the inside back cover. In the ad, we feature one of the most difficult spiral stringer projects we have ever undertaken in the last 78 years. We recently spiral bent 20" X 18" rectangular tube steel down to a 7'7" plan view radius and 20" x 12" rectangular tube steel down to a 13'9" plan view radius for the Lakeside Campus in Richardson, Texas. Our induction heat source and increment bending method produces extremely tight spiral bends which all met AESS standards. Check out the most recent NOMMA Buyers Guide or see the pictures below to see the bends for yourself. Extremely Tight Tube Steel Spiral Stringers for Lakeside Campus Building Staircase
Enjoy the latest install pictures of the 20” x 8” x .625” wall tube steel which provides the base supports for a heavy weight bearing spiral staircase at the Lakeside Campus in Richardson, Texas. The tube steel was spiral bent the easy way using our induction heat source and increment bend method. The tube steel was bent down to a 7’ 7” center line (plan view) radius and all bends were to AESS standards. Albina also bent tube steel 20” x 12” x .625” wall for a different section of the spiral staircase. The 20″ x 12″ material was bent down to a 13’ 9” center line (plan view) radius and all bends were to AESS standards. The specifications to bend to a center line radius this tight is almost unheard of, but Albina was able to do it to perfection! Tube Steel Spiral Stringers Provide Support for Heavy Weight Bearing Spiral Staircase
Albina recently bent tube steel 20” x 8” x .625” wall which will provide the base supports for a heavy weight bearing spiral staircase. The tube steel was spiral bent the easy way also using our induction heat source and increment bend method. The 20" x 12" material was bent down to a 13’ 9” center line (plan view) radius and all bends were to AESS standards. The specifications to bend to a center line radius this tight is almost unheard of! Albina was able to bend per the customers specifications and provide an exceptional quality product! Curved Steel Spiral Staircase at Tommy Bahama Waikiki, HI.
Albina recently bent very large HSS (Hallow Structural Steel) rectangular tubing 16" X 4" X .500" WALL A500 GR B for an elliptical staircase at the Tommy Bahama Restaurant & Bar at The Shops at Mauna Lani in Waikiki, Hawaii. Upon extensive review of the plans submitted to Albina for production, it was determined that some radius changes were required. Many of the original radii required were actually deemed “too tight” to bend. Original plans called for bends that were as tight as a 3’-8” Centerline Radius. To remedy this problem, Albina was able to provide suggestions and recommendations regarding the radii that we were able to successfully bend while maintaining a high level of AESS (architecturally exposed structural steel) quality. This was a unique project because the stringers, as detailed, included numerous different radii. Many stringers are designed with a single radius or just a few radii. This staircase was originally designed with such complexity that it would have been fabricated from 38 individually bent members. Albina’s suggestion to decrease the actual number of parts and instead “blend” some parts together helped simplify the bending process, and reduced the total number of full-penetration weld splices that customer would need to perform during fabrication. After much discussion, the staircase was redesigned, resulting in only 24 individual members (a 37% decrease in the number of bent parts and full penetration weld joints). These changes resulted in a quicker lead-time and a labor cost savings. After receiving the elliptical bends from Albina, the customer commented, "Albina worked with us on time frames and cost issues. Albina must roll these pieces perfectly or we can’t even attempt to get a finish product on this end. We are counting on these things being correct…period. Albina is not afraid to take the risk of rolling a radius that hasn’t been done before. I appreciate the consistent and un-prodded reports on job status and progression.” [caption id="attachment_711" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Curved Steel Staircase Tommy Bahama Curved Steel Staircase Tommy Bahama[/caption] [caption id="attachment_712" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Curved Steel Staircase Tommy Bahama Curved Steel Staircase Tommy Bahama[/caption]
Rolled Plate Creates Spiral Stair Stringers
Albina Co., Inc. recently rolled steel plate to create the spiral stair stringers for a beautiful custom curved steel staircase in California. The plate sections consisted of 1/2" x 14" A36 plate rolled counter clockwise to a 38' 8" radius and 43' 9" radius. For portions of the landing area, 1" X 14" A36 plate was rolled anywhere from a 37' 7" radius to a 42' 6" radius. Various other structural steel members were bent including 4" X 4" X ¼" ANGLE A36 rolled legout to a 37' 6" radius. Spiral Stringer Bending with Almost NO Distortion
Albina Co., Inc. recently spiral bent a piece of tube steel 10" X 6" X .375" WALL A500 GR B. This is a very tight spiral bend with a lot of twist….almost NO distortion. With the assistance of an induction heat source, Albina was able to spiral bend the tube steel the Easy way to a 65” center line plan view radius.
