Steel Supported Bridge at Universal Studios Hollywood
Albina recently completed 65,000# of bent steel  for a curved span bridge that connects Los Angeles' Metro Universal City City Red Line Station to Universal Studio Hollywood's Wizarding World of Harry Potter Attraction. Albina bent the following structural steel materials for the 400 foot, L-shaped bridge span bridge. 14” OD x .375” Wall bent down to a 60 ft radius 16” Od x .500” wall bent down to a 59 ft radius 17” Sch80 A106B smls bent down to a 59 ft radius 8.625” OD x .500” wall API-5L bent down to a 44 ft radius 8.625” OD x .625” wall API-5L bent down to a 202 ft radius The steel was fabricated by Thomson Metal Fab. Shipping Yard Packed with Curved Steel Projects
Summer months in the steel bending industry always present very fun and interesting curved steel projects from various manufacturing and structural customers alike. Our shipping yard is filled with various small material, mass production runs for our customers in the manufacturing industry. Curved Steel Handrail at Popular Tourist Destination
If you plan on taking a roadtrip through Oregon this summer, program your GPS for a stop at Oregon's Historic Vista House. Vista House is an observatory at Crown Point in Multnomah County, Oregon and is a National Natural Landmark. The Vista House also serves as a memorial to Oregon pioneers. During the interior and exterior restoration of the building in the early 2000's, Albina Co., Inc. bent a curved steel handrail to not only upgrade the 1918 facade designed by Edgar M. Lazerus, but to also help make the Vista House accessible to the handicapped. The curved steel handrail lines a ramp to the entry way of the dome and on the interior a disappearing lift between levels was added to assist handicapped visitors. Helical, Elliptical and Parabolic Bent 3-1/2" Sch40 Steel Pipe for Wind Sculpture
A customer recently called us and asked if we were ready for a difficult steel bending project out of 3½” Sch40 pipe.  The project was for a Wind Sculpture in Oak Harbor Washington.  The designer was hopeful that the material could be bent to countless radii and configurations.  Some of the radii are elliptical, some bends are compound, some bends are helical bent, the list goes on. Once Albina reviewed the drawings we jumped at the opportunity to perform. The experts at Albina make the seemingly impossible bending projects, possible. University of Colorado Health Center Project Utilized Curved Steel
As a University of Colorado alumni graduating in 1998 I would never pass up on an opportunity to provide bent structural steel for my alma mater. A great customer of ours from Colorado contacted us months ago presenting the opportunity to partner up on the University of Colorado Health Center project. We jumped at the opportunity to team up and work on this project. The project consists of 8 pcs of 12 3/4" OD X .375" WALL A252 GR3 which is a special grade of material. This material is being bent to various radii ranging from 114 ft to 438 ft. We are also bending 18 pcs of MC12 X 10.6# A36 the hard way (against the web) radii ranging from 439 ft to 468 ft. We are also providing 10 lengths of W44 X 290# A992 bent the hardway to radii ranging from 439 ft to 468 ft. Reser's Fine Foods Takes Center Ring at the Portland Rose Parade with Steel Ring of Fire
It is that time of year again where beautiful floats take the streets of Portland, Oregon during the annual Rose Festival Parade. Reser's Fine Foods chose to use curved steel pipe for the feature element of their float during a previous Rose Parade.  Actual flames of fire traveled across the steel ring to create a dazzling visual effect. We are looking forward to the upcoming Rose Parade June 11th, 2016 and hope to assist many more companies and organizations who choose to use curved steel to enhance the aesthetics and visual effects of their floats! Induction Heating Process Creates Near 4D Bend
Albina Co., Inc. was recently tasked with forming 10” Sch80 pipe to a 50” center line radius. That is nearly a 4D bend! Our new induction heating source and bending process has helped us expand the material range we can work with and the radii that we can bend. It has allowed us meet the “induction only” heating requirements that certain projects specify. Call us today to learn more! Structural Steel Bending at Peterson Auto Museum
Albina Co., Inc. bent 36 pieces of 6 5/8" OD X .375" wall round steel tubing and 384 pieces of 6" SCH80 6061-T6 ALUM to create the unique shape for the Peterson Auto Museum in Los Angeles, CA. Albina cut, bent and trimmed all pieces per the provided drawings. While most of the bent material was covered with the "skin" of the building, the bent steel parts are what gave the museum its' unique shape and appearance. Every part was slightly different and needed to be processed to very tight tolerances. Photos courtesy of Zahner. Curved Steel Bends for Marine and Locomotive Parts In Honor of Veterans Day
In honor of Veteran's Day, I thought I would share a PT-658 boat restoration project that Albina Co., Inc. participated in. Albina bends and curves steel parts used on locomotive frames, boat frames, deck rails and even components for homeland security helping to protect our docks and ports. One example includes, PT-658, the last remaining operable PT boat from World War II. Albina bent and donated 3/4" Sch40 Bare pipe bends to form a protective railing for the deck mounted guns and 5” OD x .120” wall stainless steel exhaust tubing for the Packard Diesel engines and 1/2” OD x .065” wall T304 stainless steel bends (coils) around the 5” OD stainless material to cool the extremely hot exhaust tubes.
