Curved Tube Steel for BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) Berkeley

The downtown BART Berkeley (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station is conveniently located close to the University of California campus and to many shops, restaurants, theaters and other attractions, and has valet bike parking. Albina has been involved in several BART projects over the years and this is just the most recent one. We rolled various sizes of tube steel and angle including:

Tube Steel 6″ X 6″ X .375″ WALL A500 GR B- all bent to a 32 ft radius.
Tube Steel 6″ X 5″ X .250″ WALL A500 GR B- all bent the hard way to a 22 ft radius. All parts provided by Albina rolled, trimmed to length and notched for fabrication.
Tube Steel 12″ X 8″ X .500″ WALL A500 GR B. Bent by Albina the hard way to a 41 ft radius.
Tube Steel 12″ X 6″ X .375″ WALL A500 GR B. Bent by Albina the easy way to a 109 ft radius.
Tube Steel 10″ X 6″ X .500″ WALL A500 GR B. Bent by Albina the easy way to a 110 ft radius.
2½” X 2½” X ¼” ANGLE T316 S/S. Bent by Albina with the leg out to a 21 ft radius.

Albina produces architecturally designed pedestrian bridges and walk-ways as well as motor vehicle and mass transportation bridges and support systems erected at transportation stations, universities, museums, large businesses, state park, etc. Here are some pictures. Check back for more pictures!

Curved Steel Spiral Staircase for the New American Airlines Headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas

Albina recently used our induction heating process to spiral bend Tube Steel 16″ X 16″ X .625″ WALL A500 GR B bent down to a an 18 foot radius for the new American Airlines headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. The 1.7 million-square-foot complex, dubbed the “Trinity complex,” consists of constructing four seven-story buildings. It will cost at least $300 million to build and will house over 6,500 employees. There are 10 tower cranes on the project and there will be more than 1,000 construction workers on-site during the peak. It is scheduled to open during the second half of 2019. Including the 16″ square, we have produced another set of spirals and have one in the queue. The one in the queue is Tube Steel 14″ x 6″ x .625″ wall REALLY tight, exposed and bent to a 5′-6″ radius on a 45° pitch. We already made a mock up for the job and all parties loved it. These are the type of bends that ONLY Albina can do! This is a really amazing project! Stay tuned for more pictures.

Our Davi- MCP30 Master Bender Machine Has Arrived!!!

Our new machine is up and rolling! This master bender machine offers the new and innovative iRoll camera system, allowing operators to view the part being bent compared to a radius template on the control screen. This is a new way to make quality and consistent parts. Another innovation with the master bender is the machine’s ability to “learn and remember” how different materials bend, where the rolls need to be positioned, and how much spring back is associated with a bend / material.

This machine is a great fit for our shop, its size puts it right between our current Roundo R7 and R11 machines. Allowing us to reallocate work from two machines to three machines which should certainly help with our scheduling flexibility.

The MCP30 will allow us to bend up to 8” x 8” angle, 9” square HSS, W16 the easy way / W12 the hard way and 14” Sch20 pipe / 12” Sch40 pipe.

Meet Brian and Jaime Smith- “Responsibility Equals Accountability Equals Ownership”

“Responsibility Equals Accountability Equals Ownership. A sense of ownership is the most powerful weapon a team or organization can have.”
-Pat Summit, Former Tennessee Women’s Basketball Coach

We live in “what used to be” the beautiful city of Portland, Oregon. We used to take our kids down to the waterfront and spend the day playing tourist in our own city, but those days are long over. Our daughter ran a race downtown recently and we were in shock at the state of our city…garbage everywhere, human excrement on the sidewalks and in the flower beds, it was embarrassing. Yet most people were content to walk over the trash, to turn a blind eye to the sad state of what used to be one of the most beautiful cities in the country. Our take was that our communities have lost their sense of responsibility, accountability and ownership. We don’t have the solution to change these things, I wish we did, as I know many areas of the country face the same challenges.

However, we can make a promise to you that we run our organization like we run our family. We treat our facilities like we treat our own home. We are respectful, responsible and safe in how we operate and we also understand that our ability to perform directly reflects on you and your company when dealing with your customers. We are accountable to our customers and vendors. We keep our word and we do what we say we can do, when promised, and to your satisfaction. We value our employees and our facility and we take great care of the people and property around us. We take great pride in our responsibility of servicing you and great pride in the ownership of Albina Co., Inc.

We recently went on a family trip to Kona, Hawaii. We work extremely hard and we play extremely hard! We zip-lined for the first time! All of us went upside down and no hands over spectacular river gorges, water falls and lava tubes! The next day, we swam with dolphins in the wild and also came upon a pelagic manta ray measuring 8 feet wide that had never been spotted in the Hawaiian waters! The kids had the amazing pleasure of naming the manta ray “Freedom”!

Need Curved Steel for a Bridge Project?

Bridge bending? Yes- we bend steel for anything, even bridges! In fact every month steel is leaving our yard for different steel bridge projects. We recently finished bending steel for two bridge projects located on opposite ends of the United States. The first project shipped to Maine and consisted of 12,000# of HSS (rectangular and square tubing). Sizes ranged from TS 8” x 8” x .375” wall to TS 14” x 14” x .375” wall. The second project located in California (a week later) was for 21,000# of W33 X 118# A992 bent the hard way. We can provide bending needs for east coast and west coast projects!

Curved Steel Wide Flange for the UC Health Highlands Ranch Hospital

Albina recently worked with a loyal customer out of Colorado on the UC Health Highlands Ranch Hospital. Albina needed to bend and ship 40,000# of bent steel to meet a critical project schedule. Albina was able to finish and ship the project days before the required date, once again exceeding customer expectations!

The materials on this project consisted of:
W12 X 26# A992
W12 X 14# A992
W16 X 36# A992
W14 X 22# A992
W14 X 30# A992

All bent the Hard way!

Curved Steel: Spiral Bending of Tube Steel for the Philadelphia Museum of Art

Believe it or not, but Albina ships our bent steel all over the US and Canada! In fact, we recently finished a project for the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Our bent steel shipped to our customer in Virginia to be fabricated and was then shipped to the job site in Pennsylvania. We spiral and flat bent TS 20″ X 12″ X .625″ WALL A500 GR B the easy way down to a 56 ft radius.

We were recently involved with some bending for the Digestive Health Institute of Montana, the largest gastrointestinal (GI) medical group in Montana. Approximately 30,000 pounds of bent steel was shipped to Great Falls, MT for fabrication. This project was unique due to the wide range of materials needing to be rolled.

We bent the following materials:
Tube Steel 12″ X 4″ X .250″ WALL A500 GR B
Tube Steel 12″ X 2″ X .250″ WALL A500 GR B

Curved Steel Bent to a Complicated “S” Configuration for Simon Fraser University

Albina Co., Inc. recently bent 90 pieces of Tube Steel 8″ X 4″ X .375″ WALL A500 GR C the hardway to a complicated “S” configuration. The tightest “S” section that we bent was down to a 59” radius. All of the material was bent cold on our profile rolling equipment. This steel was shipping to a good customer in Canada to be fabricated and then installed at Simon Fraser University.
