Curved Steel at our Nation’s Schools & Universities

Boy how the tide has turned! No longer do I hear, “I don’t want to go to school today!” Instead I hear, “I can’t wait until we get to go back to school!” Kids across the country are gaining a new appreciation for how important it is to physically be able to enter their school buildings to learn. We have been very fortunate to be involved in a number of projects at schools across the nation including custom spiral and circular staircases, curved steel signs, curved steel artwork, curved steel canopies, and more!

Curved Steel in our Parks & Recreational Facilities

Sometimes the Building Itself is Just As Interesting As What’s Inside

Often times when you visit a museum, you are looking at the objects of historical, scientific, artistic or cultural significance on the inside of the building, but the BUILDING ITSELF is often very eye-catching, interesting and artistic as well! The same can hold true for your local amphitheater. Yes, you are there to focus on the band or production occurring under the amphitheater’s structure, but take a moment to also appreciate the structure itself.

Transportation Projects- “Oh the Places You’ll Go”

Oh, The Places You’ll Go- “Congratulations! Today is your day. You’re off to Great Places! You’re off and away!” -Dr. Suess. I know we are all anxiously awaiting the day that we can back out on the roads, in the skies, on the rails, or whatever your preferred form of travel may be. Keep the faith and check out a few of the transportation projects we have been a part of over the years.

Building a “Strong America” with Steel

The use of cold formed steel as a construction material dates back into the 1800’s and has been the primary building block for America’s infrastructure. The one word I think of when I hear the word “steel” is “strong” and when we are building with steel, we are building a “Strong America.” This week, I will be highlighting a few of the projects we have been a part of over the years that shows how strong we were, how strong we are, and how strong we will continue to be.

Curved Steel Pipe Helps to Create a Custom Canopy at the San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church

Albina recently bent 8 Pieces of 6″ Sch80 pipe bent to 90°+ on a 5 foot radius to help create a beautiful canopy for the San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church in Alamo, CA. The curved steel pipe pieces provided the structural supports for the overhead canopy. The San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church is located in Alamo, CA.

“Student Experience Center” Curved Steel Canopy at Oregon State University

The college tours continue and a few weekends ago, we had the pleasure of visiting Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon and seeing the curved steel canopy at the Student Experience Center.

The project was bent out of TS 20″ X 12″ X .500″ WALL. Bent the hard-way to the tightest radius of 101′-8″ inside. Always fun to see our handy work in person!

Curved Steel Canopy at the Calvary Chapel in Ontario, Oregon

Albina recently bent various materials including tube steel, flat bar, pipe and angle for the Calvary Chapel in Ontario, Oregon. The Calvary Chapel is right on the Idaho border. Our bent material helped to create a lovely curved steel canopy for the chapel.

Materials Bent Include:

TS 10″ X 3″ X .375″ WALL A500 GR B (7 lengths x 48 ft- bent the hard way to a 66 ft radius).

FB ½” X 4″ A36 (2 lengths x 20 ft- bent the hard way to a 66 ft radius).

8″ SCH40 A500 GR B (1 length x 42 ft).

TS 6″ X 2″ X .188″ WALL A500 GR B (5 lengths x 48 ft).

1″ X 1″ X ¼” ANGLE A36 (6 lengths x 20 ft).

Rare Curved Aluminum Material Creates Overhead Canopy at Pacific Plaza in Dallas, TX.

We had to mill order 12″ SCH40 (.406″ WALL) 6061-T6 Aluminum material to create the curved members for the overhead canopy at Pacific Plaza park in Dallas, Texas. This is a VERY rare material to get out of a mill. We ordered 30 lengths in total and bent, trimmed and marked top dead center on all parts. The material was bent to AESS (Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel) standards and very tight tolerances. Pacific Plaza has officially broken ground and is part of an urban renewal project transforming surface parking lots into a neighborhood park. The park is slated to be completed by the fall of 2019.
