The downtown BART Berkeley (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station is conveniently located close to the University of California campus and to many shops, restaurants, theaters and other attractions, and has valet bike parking. Albina has been involved in several BART projects over the years and this is just the most recent one. We rolled various sizes of tube steel and angle including:
Tube Steel 6″ X 6″ X .375″ WALL A500 GR B- all bent to a 32 ft radius.
Tube Steel 6″ X 5″ X .250″ WALL A500 GR B- all bent the hard way to a 22 ft radius. All parts provided by Albina rolled, trimmed to length and notched for fabrication.
Tube Steel 12″ X 8″ X .500″ WALL A500 GR B. Bent by Albina the hard way to a 41 ft radius.
Tube Steel 12″ X 6″ X .375″ WALL A500 GR B. Bent by Albina the easy way to a 109 ft radius.
Tube Steel 10″ X 6″ X .500″ WALL A500 GR B. Bent by Albina the easy way to a 110 ft radius.
2½” X 2½” X ¼” ANGLE T316 S/S. Bent by Albina with the leg out to a 21 ft radius.
Albina produces architecturally designed pedestrian bridges and walk-ways as well as motor vehicle and mass transportation bridges and support systems erected at transportation stations, universities, museums, large businesses, state park, etc. Here are some pictures. Check back for more pictures!
Last night was Taylor Swift’s opening night for her “Reputation Tour” at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona! Albina Co., Inc. bent 270,000 pounds of steel for the University of Phoenix Stadium. 31 lens x 20 ft: 1½” X 1½” X 3/16″ ANGLE A36 Rolled all leg out. Each part had 2 radii. 206 lengths of Tube Steel 10″ X 6″ X .375″ WALL A500 GR B. All material was bent to AESS (architecturally exposed structural steel)standards. There were multiple radii per piece as tight as a 4′ 7″ CLR. All parts were bent the Hard-way.
Albina Co., Inc. recently completed bending 21,000 pounds of curved steel for a Providence Medical Center located in Medford, Oregon. We bent Tube steel 8″ X 6″ X .250″ WALL A500 GR B bent the Easy way to a 22 ft radius, tube steel 6″ X 4″ X .250″ WALL A500 GR B Bent the Hard way to a 17 ft radius and Tube steel 6″ X 3″ X .250″ WALL A500 GR B of which 4 lengths were bent the Easy way to a 23 ft radius and 4 lengths were bent the Hard way to a 17 ft radius. Lastly, we bent Tube steel 6″ X 6″ X .250″ WALL A500 GR B Bent to a 44 ft radius.
The AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) recently issued a press release announcing a dozen structural steel projects that have earned recognition in the 2018 Innovative Design in Engineering and Architecture with Structural Steel awards program (IDEAS2). Albina Co., Inc. was the steel bender of choice for the Merit Award winner UC Davis Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art, Davis, Calif. To read to full press release, please visit the AISC website. The AISC has also produced a YouTube video titled “IDEAS2 Awards FAQ” highlighting the main criteria for steel buildings that are considered as potential candidates to receive an IDEAS2 award.
In early December, we received notification from the American Institute of Steel Construction that the UC Davis Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art, of which Albina Co., Inc. did the structural steel bending for, was selected by the AISC awards jury to receive the 2018 IDEAS2 Merit Award in the $15-$75 Million Category. In all, the jury selected 12 projects for the recognition this year for the IDEAS2 Award, the U.S. Steel Industry’s highest honor for building design. Four projects received the National Award, while six projects received the Merit Award, and two projects received the Presidential Award, one for excellence in adaptive reuse and another for excellence in erection engineering. AISC will announce the winning projects as NASCC: The Steel Construction Conference in Baltimore this spring.
Albina Co., Inc. recently rolled 10,000 pounds of channel C15 X 33.9# A36 for The Great Park in Irvine, California. All of the material rolled with the flanges in and is architecturally exposed structural steel. The Great Park is a non-aviation reuse of the decommissioned Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) El Toro with a focus on sports, agriculture, and the arts. In 2017, two new construction projects were approved and consist of an ice facility and a sports complex. Albina has the ability to bend all mill supplied sizes of channel which includes C3x4.1# through C15x50#.

10,000# of C15 X 33.9# A36. All material rolled with the flanges in and is AESS.
Tube Steel 8″ X 6″ X .250″ WALL A500 GR B Bent the EW to a 22 ft radius. Tube Steel 6″ X 4″ X .250″ WALL A500 GR B Bent the HW to a 17 ft radius. Tube Steel 6″ X 3″ X .250″ WALL A500 GR B 4 lengths bent the EW to a 23 ft radius and 4 lengths bent the HW to a 17 ft radius. Tube Steel 6″ X 6″ X .250″ WALL A500 GR B Bent to a 44 ft radius.

Square and Rectangular Structural Tube Steel Bent to Various Radii
St. Alphonsus Medical Center is non-for-profit hospital, serving Boise, and the surrounding communities in eastern Oregon and southwestern Idaho. Albina Co., Inc. recently bent several long lengths of tube steel to form a beautiful curved entry-way at the Joint Preservation & Reconstruction Center.
When people ask me what I do and where I work, I get excited to tell them the answer because it almost comes as a surprise when I describe what our company does. When I say, ” I work for a steel bending and fabrication company” many people look at me inquisitively and ask “so what does that mean?” Since many of the products we make require someone to look above eye level, my common response is “next time you are outside, look up, look around, any time you see bent steel on a canopy, a roof truss, a store front…those are the kinds of things we make.” Many people go as far as to comment, “I never really thought about the fact that the steel has to be bent somehow!” So next time you look up and see a curved steel structure, think of Albina. “We’ve Got You Covered!”
The bending portion of this project required very large HSS rectangular tubing to be bent consistently from piece to piece with little to no deformation. Albina bent 8 lengths of TS 20” x 12” x .500” wall A500 Gr. B, all over 70 ft long. Albina also bent 44 lengths x 60 ft and 23 lengths x 25 ft of TS 6” x 3” x .313” wall A500 Gr. B, this material was “double bent” the easy-way and the hard-way. Fought & Co., a structural steel fabrication shop located in Tigard Oregon, teamed up with Albina to successfully produce the required canopy. Albina was tasked with the steel bending while Fought was tasked with the fabrication.
