Rolling (aka "Pyramid Rolling") is the typical method of curving steel for construction related projects and is usually the most economical bending method for curving members to larger radii. A steel member is placed in a machine and curved as it moves through the three rolls. All three rolls are independently rolling / spinning and two of the rolls can move adjacent to the material creating more or less pressure on the material, resulting in tighter or larger radii. Roll bending is also commonly called "pyramid rolling" because of the three rolls' pyramid arrangement. Different radii are formed when the distance between the three rolls in relation to the material is manipulated before each successive pass. To successfully roll bend to required radii the material often makes multiple passes through the rolls.
