Albina just bent and welded 27 lengths x 20 ft to make 3 cooling coil assemblies for a refrigeration project. All material processed was 1¼” Sch80 SA106B seamless.
Albina roll bent the material to the requested coil configurations. We trimmed the coils to size and draw bent the terminals and welded the terminals to the coils. Each cooling coil assemble was pressure tested after fabrication for leaks. Once we completed this project we shipped it across the country to Maryland!

The coils were bent in one continuous piece that spirals down on the inside and then steps out and spirals back over itself. The sheet between was not needed to complete the bends but was left in place to match the existing design.

For these heat exchanger “u-tube” projects we bend to various radii configurations and all bends are at 180°. After bending, we always trim both ends of the bend, deburr the ends after trimming, wash the ID of the tubing and securely package the bent tubes in custom made wooden crates. All of the bends are bent and checked to RDB-2.31 and ASME Section II-B, SB-163, S1.2.3 standards for wall thinning and ovailty. Albina is much more than just a structural bending facility. We service ALL industries that might require bent steel.
Recently Albina was involved with a large industrial application where we orovided Cargo Heating Pipe Coils for tanks in barges.
We were responsible for bending, trimming and washing each of the 488 lengths x 40 ft 2″ SCH40 SA106B SMLS to net 880 pcs. All bends were made to a 6” center-line-radius and our quality control department had to 100% QC parts to make sure the backwall thinning of the material was not below .079” and that ovality of the material was minimized.
After processing the first phase of this project the customer immediately placed 3 more releases as they were pleased with the quality, fair pricing, communication and customer service offered by Albina.
We recently supplied rolled tubes for the Jimi Hendrix Park project in Seattle, Washington. The customer was so pleased with the rolled tubes that they received that they reached out to us to let us know. “We are currently in fabrication, we are looking at an install at the end of March. I will first say that the rolled tubes are exactly correct in terms of radius. You are experts at your craft and it shows.” Remember that there is a price and a cost associated with every purchasing decision. Do not chose the lowest initial price or you may deal with excessive and unanticipated costs throughout the project.

Albina recently completed bending 16″ OD X .625″ WALL A500 GR B material for a new bridge at the San Diego Zoo. A total of 24 lens x 48 feet weighing 118,350 pounds were required for this job. Albina used a combination of induction bending and cold increment bending to complete this project to meet AESS standards. Radii on the projected ranged from a 20 foot center-line-radius to a 350 foot center-line-radius. We are not a stranger to bending bridges for California Zoos! The NCSEA (National Council of Structural Engineers Association) 19th Annual Awards for Excellence in Structural Engineering were announced in September and featured in the December issue of Structure Magazine. The facade system for the Petersen Automotive Museum Renovation was awarded Outstanding Project in the “special use structures” category. The exterior of the building was designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox as a series of freeform stainless steel ribbons flowing over the structure. The ribbons are supported by treelike structures, bent by Albina Co., Inc., which were designed to resemble engine manifolds. This project faced many structural concerns and the design team was able to come up with a solution that met all the structural needs as well as meeting the architectural vision. I wanted to share a story from a customer whom we recently completed a job for. The customer found us through the internet and was impressed with our web page layout because it showed that we do architectural work. He said working with the team at Albina was a “great experience.”
“This project was textbook from beginning to end. Once it arrived in Seattle it was installed within an hour. Albina’s timing was unbelievable. We have another job coming up where the bent pipes need to be perfect and clean and strong as it has coils going through and it can’t be crushed. Once the project is ready for release, Albina will be my first phone call.”
Most of the customers’ work is done in the DC area so he thought shipping might be a problem on the upcoming job. We have a lot of customers on the East Coast and we have the ability to combine shipments which helps to keep the costs down. Don’t let shipping be a deterrent.
Albina Co., Inc. has operated in a 50,000 square foot shop since 2001. The shop was designed and built taking into account our equipment at the time of occupancy as well as future plans for growth. Over the years, Albina has purchased many bending machines including draw bending equipment, roll bending equipment and plate rolling equipment and we have done our best to place machines in “free” spaces in our shop. This has created some organization and operational issues because similar machines were not grouped together. Once again, Albina has purchased two new machines to add to our equipment inventory. Before these machines arrived, we completely restructured our shop and have completed a major overhaul in order to group similar machines in common areas.
