In honor of Veteran’s Day, I thought I would share a PT-658 boat restoration project that Albina Co., Inc. participated in. Albina bends and curves steel parts used on locomotive frames, boat frames, deck rails and even components for homeland security helping to protect our docks and ports. One example includes, PT-658, the last remaining operable PT boat from World War II. Albina bent and donated 3/4″ Sch40 Bare pipe bends to form a protective railing for the deck mounted guns and 5” OD x .120” wall stainless steel exhaust tubing for the Packard Diesel engines and 1/2” OD x .065” wall T304 stainless steel bends (coils) around the 5” OD stainless material to cool the extremely hot exhaust tubes.
Architecturally designed pedestrian bridges and walk-ways are often erected at transportation stations, universities, museums, business centers, and state parks. Most often, these curved steel bridges are constructed of bent or rolled structural steel including, pipe, square or rectangular tube steel, channel and wide flange. It depends on the application, the load requirements the AESS (Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel) requirements, and fabrication specifications of the project to determine which type of structural steel will best fit the needs of the project.
When people ask me what I do and where I work, I get excited to tell them the answer because it almost comes as a surprise when I describe what our company does. When I say, ” I work for a steel bending and fabrication company” many people look at me inquisitively and ask “so what does that mean?” Since many of the products we make require someone to look above eye level, my common response is “next time you are outside, look up, look around, any time you see bent steel on a canopy, a roof truss, a store front…those are the kinds of things we make.” Many people go as far as to comment, “I never really thought about the fact that the steel has to be bent somehow!” So next time you look up and see a curved steel structure, think of Albina. “We’ve Got You Covered!”
Albina Co., Inc. is a small, family owned, 3rd generation company that can handle LARGE and SMALL projects requiring bent steel. While we do have a large national presence in the structural steel and architectural market of bent steel, we also love to work on smaller, local and regional projects that might only require a few simple bends. We have mastered the craft of steel bending and can be price competitive on smaller projects as well.
Keep in mind that our company was built on providing bent steel products for the manufacturing and industrial sectors and that mainstay of our business has not changed. We can provide the consistent, accurate, repeatable small parts you require for your bent steel project.
Steel Doesn’t Bend Itself! The Process Requires a Qualified & Reputable Bender-Roller Company!
If you take the time to look around you, you will see many instances where bent, curved or rolled steel is used in manufacturing, industrial, architectural and structural applications. Do you ever ask yourself “What process is used to bend steel?” Albina Co. Inc., a family owned and operated bending and fabrication company, located in Tualatin, Oregon, has been providing customers with innovative, quality bent and curved steel products since 1939.
Albina works with all forms of structural steel including: angle (up to 8”), wide flange (up to 40”), channel (up to 18”), square and rectangular tubing (up to 20” x 12”), and solid bars. In addition to structural steel, Albina also bends pipe and round tubing (up to 26” OD) and has the ability to roll plate. Albina can virtually bend any ferrous and non-ferrous metals produced.
Albina Co., Inc. recently completed a project involving various curved tube steel to create a state-of-the-art car canopy at the UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco, CA. Albina Co., Inc. bent tube steel 5″ X 3″ X .375″ WALL A500 GR B and tube steel 5″ X 3″ X .250″ WALL A500 GR B for the project. All of the material was rolled the hard way to AESS (Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel) standards.
When it comes to choosing which vendor you are going to use for a job, are you just buying on price? Please don’t. There is a price, and an ultimate end cost for every job you do.
Price vs. Cost
The price of a competitor might be below ours, but when you add up all of the actual costs to receive and install the material, is there really a cost savings?
If you chose the lowest price, you may deal with late delivery, poor quality or incorrect parts and a lack of or delayed communication.
If you choose the lowest price, you will get what you pay for.
Risk vs. Reward
It might seem like a risk to purchase from a supplier that isn’t the “lowest price.”
The rewards are greater than the risk. Albina will provide you with a “fair price” and we will provide you with a better quality product. We will provide you the correct parts the first time. We will provide on-time delivery.
Our trained, experienced staff will provide unmatched service and communication related to every aspect of your project.
Albina Co., Inc. bent 42,000# of curved hallow structural steel all of which will be Architecturally Exposed for the Warm Springs BART Pavilion Building expansion project located in Fremont, California. The bent structural material consisted of TS 10″ X 4″ X .500″ WALL A500 GR B bent to a 29’ 9½” radius the easy way and TS 10″ X 6″ X .375″ WALL A500 GR B bent to a 27’ 9½” radius the easy way.
