Steel Spiral Staircase for Goodwin Proctor Law Offices in California

Albina Co., Inc. recently completed bending spiral stringers of tube steel 10” x 6” x .625” wall all spiral bent the easy way down to a 7’ 4” inside radius. The stingers were bent for a Goodwin Proctor Law Office located in California. Albina Co., Inc. is the #1 steel stringer bender in the nation because Albina doesn’t split HSS prior to bending and then weld the sections back together to meet your needs, our HSS members are bent as HSS members. Steel Spiral Staircase at the John J. Hemmingson Center Gonzaga University

Albina Co., Inc. bent 40,000 lbs. of various sizes of tube steel for the spiral staircases at the John J. Hemmingson Center at Gonzaga University Spokane, WA. Materials consisted of Tube Steel 16″ X 8″ X .500″ WALL A500 GR B rolled the easy way down to a 22 ft radius. These lengths of material were spiral bent using our induction heating process to AESS standards. We also bent Tube Steel 12″ X 6″ X .250″ WALL A500 GR B rolled the hard way down to a 19 ft radius. The John J. Hemmingson Center was completed in 2015 and serves as a meeting place for students, staff and visitors the University. We visited the campus shortly after it opened and my son will tell you that the highlight for him was the cafe where you can make your own milkshakes! He was sold from then on out and hopes to attend Gonzago University himself one day!

Another Phase of Work Completed for the Stanford ChEM-H & SNI Building

Albina recently finished another phase of work for the new Stanford ChEM-H & SNI Building located on the Stanford University Campus. This latest phase consisted of 35,000# of bent HSS (rectangular and square tubing).

60,000# of Bent Tube Steel for Young Living Global Headquarters in Lehi, Utah

Albina Co., Inc. recently bent 60,000# of Tube Steel 18″ X 6″ X .625″ WALL A500 GR B for the Young Living Global Headquarters in Lehi, Utah. Young Living Global is a world leader in producing essential oils and broke ground in May 2017 for its 263,000 square-foot, world-class building which was designed to complement Young Living’s philosophy of living harmoniously with nature. They focused on green initiatives in both the indoor and outdoor design.

“The care and detail that went into designing our headquarters was a collaborative effort to capture our Founder and Chairman of the Board D. Gary Young’s vision for an architectural representation of the spirit of wellness and abundance that Young Living embodies,” said Jared Turner, Young Living Chief Operating Officer. “I am certain this campus will be one-of-a-kind, inside and out; and we look forward to sharing it with our local community and all who wish to visit.”

We bent a total of 53 pieces and all of them were bent the easy way or spiral bent the easy way to as tight as a 43 foot radius. All of the steel material was bent to Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel standards.

60,000# of Bent Steel for The Living Desert Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Palm Desert, CA.

We just finished a project for The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Desert, California which consisted of over 60,000# of bent steel! This project consisted of AESS (Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel) material including both angle to rectangular tubing. The rectangular tubing ranged from 2” x 1” up to 16” x 8″! This is a great example of how well we can handle so many various sizes of material from the small to the big! We do it all! Another highlight of this project is that we were able to take the 10″ X 6″ X .375″ WALL A500 GR B Tube Steel to a 7 ft radius! A very difficult accomplishment.

Rolled Steel for Unmanned Aircraft Hangar

We have all heard about drones and how they may play a role in our future. Like it or not, drone technology is getting better and better and the areas of the business sector where they can and will play a large roll in the growth and development of certain areas of business. Albina has just finished rolling 50,000# of steel for a new UNMANNED AIRCRAFT HANGAR. For this project we rolled 6” angle, square tubing 3″ x 3″ and 6″ x 6″, as well as wide flange ranging from W8# to W18#. Stay tuned for some installation pictures in the near future.

Steel Bending Complete for the LAX Midfield Satellite Concourse North Expansion

Albina has finished the steel bending for the new LAX Midfield Satellite Concourse North Project. This project was part of an estimated $1.2 billion dollar modernization program at Los Angeles International Airport. Albina partnered with Schuff Steel and we bent over 1.2 million pounds of curved HSS (Hallow Structural Steel) as well as structural steel members for the project. This project consisted of various structural shapes and sizes and resulted in 0% rework. The steel bending was done over 7 months and we were able to meet or exceed all of our customers scheduling requirements.

The satellite concourse will be a remote facility initially served by an airport busing operation and a passenger access tunnel (PAX) connection to the Bradley West Terminal. The new MSC will permit greater flexibility in scheduling improvements at other facilities, reduce reliance on remote gates, and ensure a high level of service for LAX passengers.

Transbay Transit Center Nearing Completion

Albina has been involved with the Transbay Transit Center construction project since late 2014. Construction of the Transit Center, whick will connect eight Bay Area counties and the State of California through 11 transportation systems: AC Transit, BART, Caltrain, Golden Gate Transit, Greyhound, Muni, SamTrans, WestCAT Lynx, Amtrak, Paratransit and California’s future High Speed Rail from San Francisco to Los Angeles/Anaheim. is currently underway. Construction is expected to be complete in late 2017. For the most recent phase of the project, Albina provided 48,000# of 4″ OD X .125″ WALL A513 and TS 8″ X 2″ X .250″ WALL A500 GR B all bent to various configurations. To perform to the highest quality standards we sand filled some of the materials prior to rolling, which helped hold the original shop during the bending process. Efficient Bending of HSS for Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at the University of California, Davis

Modern Steel recently interviewed our very own General Manager, Mark King, to help construct the recently published article “Above all, ART” that highlights the precise structural design and inspiring architecture of the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at the University of California, Davis. As a bender/roller, we were involved early enough in the process that we were able to reduce complicated curves, simplify the steel bending and reduce significant costs. The canopy consisted of HSS 14″ x 10″ rectangular tubing bent in multiple planes (both the easy way and the hard way). An important highlight of the project was that some of the material that was bent in multiple planes was rotated off-axis by a slight amount, and the radius was large enough, that we were able to bend it cold, which is a faster process than hot bending.

A Second Headquarters for Amazon?

Amazon may be exploring the option of a second headquarters somewhere beyond its current base in Seattle. Albina Co., Inc. was the AISC steel bender/roller on the most recent Amazon spheres in Seattle, Washington. Amazon told city planners they could spend up to $5 billion on the new site and hire up to 50,000, then gave cities and states just six weeks to submit bids.
