Steel Spiral Staircase at the John J. Hemmingson Center Gonzaga University

Albina Co., Inc. bent 40,000 lbs. of various sizes of tube steel for the spiral staircases at the John J. Hemmingson Center at Gonzaga University Spokane, WA. Materials consisted of Tube Steel 16″ X 8″ X .500″ WALL A500 GR B rolled the easy way down to a 22 ft radius. These lengths of material were spiral bent using our induction heating process to AESS standards. We also bent Tube Steel 12″ X 6″ X .250″ WALL A500 GR B rolled the hard way down to a 19 ft radius. The John J. Hemmingson Center was completed in 2015 and serves as a meeting place for students, staff and visitors the University. We visited the campus shortly after it opened and my son will tell you that the highlight for him was the cafe where you can make your own milkshakes! He was sold from then on out and hopes to attend Gonzago University himself one day!

Spiral Stair Stringers for an Office Complex in San Francisco, California

We provide both functional and fancy solutions when supplying spiral stringers for spiral, circular and helical staircases to our customers. We specialize in architectural exposure quality spiraling of tube steel, channel, plate and pipe to amazingly tight radii and steep pitches. We work on both commercial and residential applications. We recently spiral bent Tube steel 10″ X 6″ X .625″ WALL A500 GR B the easy way down to a very tight 7 ft inside radius for an office complex in San Francisco, CA. All of the material was bent to AESS (Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel) standards. We are currently working on obtaining some amazing pictures of another project, the spiral staircase that we completed for the University of Gonzaga Student Union. I will post the pictures as soon as we received them so check back!

Spiral Steel Bending for University of Kansas Bridge

Albina really enjoyed seeing some of our valued customers at the NASCC trade show earlier in 2017. After the show Albina was asked to spiral bend some TS 20″ X 4″ X .500″ WALL A500 GR B material! This very difficult material was successfully bent by Albina to a varying pitch over the entire length. This bending project was for the Cambridge North Bridge at the University of Kansas.

This particular customer is located in Kansas. They know, if you want it done right, you call Albina. No matter how far away they are located.

Steel Spiral Stringers for Mills High School Curved Staircase

Albina Co., competes all over North America. This summer Albina finished processing some TS 18″ X 6″ X .500″ WALL A500 GR B for Mills High School located in Arkansas. Albina spiral bent the rectangular tubing the easy-way to a 15 ft plan view radius and also bent the landing / flat sections the easy way to the same 15 ft radius. Everything on this project was to AESS standards.
Albina is the national expert in HSS spiral stringer bending. Our quality standards are unmatched. Do not let distance be a deterrent, consider us your “local” bending partner and experience the unmatched quality and service we offer at Albina Co., Inc.

Curved Rectangular Tube Steel Bridge at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts

Segerstrom Center for the Arts, originally called Orange County Performing Arts Center, is a performing arts complex located in Costa Mesa, California, United States, which opened in 1986. Albina Co., Inc. recently completed rolling rectangular tube steel 6″ X 4″ X .250″ WALL A500 GR B bent the hard way to a 14’-3” center line radius. We are unique in how we bend square and rectangular (HSS) for a number of reasons. When we roll bend HSS we typically fill the material with mandrels, where we turn the hollow material into a solid. This helps minimize distortion without increasing the thickness of the material. Also during roll bending we use custom made radius corner tooling to match the radius corner of different thicknesses of HSS material. This match between tooling and material result in much higher quality bends. When we bend stringers for spiral staircases we do not fill the HSS material with permanent structural members to control distortion. Instead, we have developed methods to hot bend or induction bend HSS materials to a spiral configuration without filling the hollow part of the material. This unique process allows our customers to take HSS stringers for their staircases without added weight or inconveniences of filler materials.

Spiral Staircase for “The Hopservatory” at Worthy Brewing in Bend, Oregon

Albina Co., Inc. recently completed 14,000 lbs. of bent steel to create a beautiful spiral staircase at Worthy Brewing in Bend, OR. Bent steel materials for the project included:

MC18 X 42.7# A36 spiral bent lengths with flanges in and lengths with flanges out were bent down to a 9 ft plan view radius! Landing pieces were also spiral bent down to a 9’ 8” radius.

C15 X 33.9# A36 for the inside landings were spiral bent down to a 8’ 9” outside radius (plan view).

Bend, Oregon is located on the eastern edge of the Cascade Mountain Range along the Deschutes River and is a popular tourist town known best for the many outdoor activities offered and world famous micro-brews. Worthy Brewing Co. broke ground on Feb. 24, 2012 off U.S. Highway 20 on Bend’s east side — it’s Bend’s 1st east side brewery – and with a beer garden, hop garden, and Hopservatory. The spiral staircase winds up to The Dome at the top of the rotating Hopservatory where visitors can view the cosmic skies through an OGS 16” RC Reflector telescope.

New Spiral Staircase at Golden West College Huntington Beach, CA.

Albina is happy to be teamed up with a very loyal fabricator on the Golden West College Project located in Huntington Beach, CA. Construction of a new 51,969 square foot building at the center of campus will house all student services. A new spiral staircase with landings was required for the new building and the California fabricator new the best choice for this project was Albina.

This project required Tube Steel 16″ X 4″ X .500″ WALL A500 GR B material to be spiral bent for the stringers and also bent flat (the easy way) for the landing supports. The spiral staircase also required some smaller HSS square tubing for stringers and landings out of Tube Steel 6″ X 6″ X .625″ WALL A500 GR B. Everything on this project was bent to AESS standards.

Induction Bending of Rectangular Tube Steel for New Additions at Olympic Towne Center in Gig Harbor, Washington

Albina is working on bending rectangular hallow structural steel for the Olympic Towne Center project in West Gig Harbor, Washington. The Olympic Towne Center development will boast 186,291 square feet of retail space and will anchored by a 65,000 square foot grocery store. This project requires Albina to bend some TS 12″ X 3″ X .375″ WALL A500 GR B rectangular tubing. Part of the project consists of spiral bent stair stringers, induction bent, down to an 6 foot plan view radius! This is a very tight radius for spiral bending HSS members. We are induction bending this material with our in-house designed induction bending method which will result in the highest quality spiral bends seen in the industry. We are also providing bends for the stair case landings. These bends are also down to a 6 foot radius and will all be provided to AESS quality standards.

Steel Bending Contract at Carnegie Mellon University- Distance is Not a Deterrent!

Never hesitate to contact Albina for any of your steel bending needs. We are your “local” steel bending company no matter where you are located!

Albina was recently awarded a steel bending contract for Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. That is 2,566 miles across the United States! Our customer wanted the steel to be bent correctly, the first time, to high AESS quality standards, so they chose to contract with Albina.

For this project, Albina will be performing some very difficult spiral bending of TS 20″ X 8″ X .500″ WALL A500 GR B material. There are a total of 12 spiral bent sections and 6 sections that are bent flat (the easy-way).

Our customer couldn’t afford to make the mistake of using another bending company. They wanted to come to Albina because we have the most experience in the nation with large HSS spiral bending to the highest quality standards.

Spiral Coils for Industrial Heat Exchanger

Albina spiral coiled ½” OD X .065″ WALL stainless steel tube heat exchanger for an industrial application. We were supplied with only the existing coil to reproduce from. The coils were bent in one continuous piece that spirals down on the inside and then steps out and spirals back over itself. The sheet between was not needed to complete the bends but was left in place to match the existing design.
